Hi
I just had to share this with you, simply amazing how it all works here.
When driving in India…. Do the opposite of what most countries do…lol
Rule #1 – Break all the Rules
-Despite all the below- Road Rage does NOT exist here.
-Do not use your mirrors if you have kept them for fashion.
-If someone flashes lights it means they are NOT giving you way.
-If they do NOT flash lights it means they are still NOT giving way, he who guesses best survives.
-A beep means they are near you and overtaking you, pushing you out of the way because their car is faster than yours, don’t be offended or upset, smile and let them pass.
-Get as close as you can to ALL moving things and do your best not to hit them, although it’s ok if you do.
-Approach a roundabout fast, do not slow down to get onto it or you will wait all day. People coming onto it have right of way, not the ones on it already.
-Do NOT use indicators as they may confuse everyone.
-Bumping and scraping dogs, cows, buffalo, people, motor bikes, cars or anything smaller than your vehicle including PEOPLE is perfectly acceptable and expected, nobody gets upset or reacts when this happens as long as the damage is not irreparable.
-Driving on the opposite side of the road at 60mph playing chicken with trucks driving towards you is the norm, not even an eyelid is flattered.
-Pedestrians that want to cross the road just GO, do not look left or right, just GO, it’s upto the cars to avoid you if they can, they have to guess when you are going to step into the road.
-If you miss your turn off just STOP, even if in the fast lane, then simply reverse and take your exit.
-Turn right from the left lane, left from the right lane and do U turns on a one-way road or you may cause a crash.
Most of all keep moving, avoid brakes until you arrive at your destination and drive as if the over congested road is empty.
I have tried my best to give you a glimpse but in all honesty it is something you MUST experience to truly appreciate. They say if you can drive in India you can drive anywhere, I say if you can drive anywhere then you can not drive in India… unless you drive in India lol.
I love this place; it’s just amazing how it all works even though it does not.
Kalpesh x
